Yoshinori Miyamasu (宮益 義範 is known as the 6th man for Miyamasu Yoshinori)Kainan. Sakuragi calls him, "Space Alien" because of his distracting appearance while wearing glasses when playing basketball, he replaces with basketball sports goggles.
Appearance[]
Though Yoshinori wears glasses, when called to play, he replaces them with a pair of goggles.
Abilities[]
Despite his size, Yoshinori is well-coached in the basics of both offense and defense like many Kainan players, and make key contributions in his appearances. His unimposing presence distracts opponents from his basketball skills, especially his reliable 3-point shooting, which is comparable to Jin's and Mitsui's. He is also defensively solid on the perimeter, being able to stay in front of skilled dribblers like Ryota Miyagi and prevent him from penetrating into the paint.
Plot[]
During Shohoku v. Kainan, Yoshinori was subbed in (to replace Jin) by Coach Riki Takato to nullify Shohoku's Sakuragi Hanamichi. Takato correctly deduced that Sakuragi will not take Yoshinori seriously enough to properly mark him, enabling Yoshinori to be effective while exposing Sakuragi's lack of basketball experience. This prompts Coach Anzai to bench Sakuragi until Takenori Akagi's injury.
In the 2nd half of the same match against Shohoku, Yoshinori was subbed in again (in place of Muto) to be another offensive threat from the 3-point arc alongside Jin due to Coach Anzai's 4-man defensive trap against Maki inside the paint. This forced Miyagi to leave the 4-man formation and mark Yoshinori, which in turn created more space inside the key for Maki to penetrate on offense.
In the same match, Yoshinori also made a critical defensive play after Kiyota missed 2 free throws; he intercepted the pass to Mitsui from Sakuragi, which halted Shohoku's fast break. He then pumpfaked Miyagi from the 3-point arc before assisting Maki's 2-point jumper with a disguised pass. This increased Kainan's lead to 6 points rather than potentially decreasing to 1 or 2 had Shohoku scored from the fast break, which proved to be crucial as Kainan ultimately won the match by mere 2 points. Maki also entrusted Yoshinori with guarding Miyagi during the closing stages of the match so that he could guard Akagi. Kainan won the match 90-88.
Toward the end of Kainan's last match of the regional tournament vs Takezato, Yoshinori was rested on the bench along with most of the starters as Kainan dominated Takezato to clinch their 17th consecutive first place finish. He watched Shohoku's victory against Ryonan along with his team. He was visibly shocked when Sakuragi scored a bank shot to score his first 2 points of the match, especially since Sakuragi was incapable of scoring a jumper merely a week prior when Yoshinori guarded him. After the match, he headed down to the award ceremony to be crowned as regional champions along with his team.
He is often seen with his team at the National Inter High Championship and observed Shohoku's matches alongside his teammates. He watched Shohoku's historic victory against Sannoh and witnessed Sannoh's consecutive championship run come to an end.
Miyamasu, with Kainan, placed second in the National Inter High Championship.
