Tomoyuki Uekusa (植草智之 Uekusa Tomoyuki) is the Point Guard of Ryonan. He is in his 2nd year.
Abilities[]
Uekusa is a solid point guard. His skills are not at the level of star guards of Kanagawa such as Shinichi Maki,Kenji Fujima, and Ryota Miyagi, but he is highly dependable and trusted by Coach Taoka. Uekusa is touted as a very good point guard by Yasuharu Yasuda of Shohoku when they faced each other. Uekusa also has decent stamina as noted by Akira Sendoh, even though he over-exerted himself going against Miyagi due to the massive skill gap.
Plot[]
Uekusa started against Shohoku in their practice match. He stole the ball from Yasuda immediately after tip-off. He later intercepted Yasuda's pass again and attempted an alley-oop pass for Sendoh to dunk, but was cutoff by Kaede Rukawa. He primarily matched up against Yasuharu Yasuda throughout the match, who noted how good of a point guard Uekusa was. Uekusa played the entire match as Ryonan won 87-86.
Uekusa started against Kainan in their penultimate match at the Kanagawa Regional Tournament. Uekusa switched roles with Sendoh for this match so that Sendoh could directly matchup against Maki.
Uekusa started against Shohoku in the last match of the Kanagawa Regional Tournament. Unlike his previous matchup against Yasuda, Uekusa had a much tougher assignment marking Miyagi. He barely kept up in the first half, and he continued to breath heavily even after half-time when Sendoh checked in on him. Due to the continued exertion, Uekusa made costly mistakes and turnovers in the 2nd half. He eventually substituted out for Koshino.
