Sasaoka started in Shohoku's Freshmen vs. Upper Classmen scrimmage when Coach Anzai first visited practice to gauge the new freshmen players. Sasaoka wore #18 for this scrimmage. He subbed out for Sakuragi Hanamichi after the latter pressured (borderline threatened) Sasaoka.
