"MVP" is the 66th chapter of the Slam Dunk manga.

Summary[]

The team is dumbfounded by Kogure's revelation, and Kogure tells about the time Mitsui was on the team. Three years ago, during the junior high championships, Takeishi Junior High was losing to Yokota Junior High by one point with only 12 seconds left on the clock. Coack Taoka believed that Yokota has won this game, but Coach Anzai noticed Mitsui of Takeishi encouraging his teammates that they could still win. This drew Taoka's attention, and he put Mitsui in his sights for recruitment to Ryonan. As the two teams went back on the court, Mitsui stole the ball from Yokota and made a basket, winning the game and the title of Most Valuable Player.

In the present, Mitsui warns Kogure to keep his mouth shut, but Sakuragi restains Mitsui as Kogure continues. Long after the game, Kogure came to Shohoku to start his freshman year, but was shocked when he saw that Mitsui was also attending, despite scholarships from all the top-notch schools. Mitsui told Kogure that together they'll make Shohoku the best team in the country, as they run to the gym. Suddenly, they saw Takenori Akagi standing in the middle of the crowd, shocked by his incredible height. The other team members asked him if he can dunk, and Akagi did one, to everyone's shock.
