Summary[]
Ayako the teams' manager
It's Sakuragi's first day of basketball practice; instead of lining up beside the other first-year students, Hanamichi stands right next to Takenori. Akagi then instructs him to stand next to the other freshmen. While lining up, Sakuragi sees Rukawa and gets furious. Hanamichi then starts to stare at him angrily. However, Rukawa doesn't get bothered by it and remains calm. Takenori then tells Hanamichi to stop goofing around, act like a mature person, and Akagi smacks Hanamichi back in the head. After witnessing, Mito and his colleagues make fun of Hanamichi's childish behavior. Sakuragi angrily stares at them and notices that Haruko is also accompanying his friends and becomes a bit serious.
Takenori then introduces himself as the basketball team captain and then asks all the freshmen to introduce themselves. As all the freshmen present themselves, Haruko sees Rukawa and gets all excited. Fuji then asks Haruko, that didn't you come to cheer Hanamichi. Then, Rukawa's turn comes up; he introduces himself that he is from Fuoka Junior High. Next, Takenori asks Rukawa what are his other hobbies besides basketball. Rukawa replies, sleeping. Hanamichi laughs at his response. Finally, Hanamichi's turn comes up; as he is about to introduce, Takenori cuts his introduction short. Sakuragi becomes a little depressed that he didn't complete his introduction. Then afterward, the team's sophomore members Kogure, Yasuharu, Shiozaki, and Kakuta, introduce themselves. As their meeting is about to reach its conclusion, Ayako makes a sudden appearance.
Sakuragi learning how to dribble
Upon her arrival, Ayako apologizes to everyone for being a bit late. Besides Hanamichi and Rukawa, all the new freshmen become a bit excited upon seeing her. Ayako then meets Rukawa and informs Kogure, the team's vice-captain, that she and Rukawa attended the same Junior High school. Ayako then encourages Rukawa to do his best cause Takenori has a lot of high expectations from him. Ayako then meets Hanamichi, smiles at him, and informs that she remembers Sakuragi from the recent 1v1 basketball duel with the teams' captain. She later tells Hanamichi since he is joining their basketball team, their training sessions will now be interesting. Upon hearing, Hanamichi smiles at her. Before starting their training regimen, Takenori informs everyone that their team goal is to make it into the Inter-High Tournament, and their practice session will be challenging. Takenori then encourages all the members to give their best efforts. As the team is doing their running drills, Ayako meets Haruko and teases her that she came to the court to see Rukawa. Haruko blushes and tells her not to tease her. After the conclusion of the running drills, Takenori instructs Ayako to give Hanamichi the basics training of basketball. A frustrated Hanamichi does dribbling practice as he watches his other teammates practice. Ayako then encourages Sakuragi that he is a beginner in basketball, and after learning all the basics, he will indeed have a chance to train alongside his teammates.
