Takenori scores his 8th basket

Haruko, alongside her friends, arrives at the schools' court and sees that the first-year student that everyone was talking about is Sakuragi Hanamichi. Mito sees Haruko and invites her to see the anticipated match. Akagi informs that the person Hanamichi is competing against is her brother Takenori Akagi. Mito and his colleagues, upon hearing, go in panic mode. Takenori easily scores his 8th basket, and the lead widens even further. Upon seeing the skill difference between the two of them, Rukawa comments that Sakuragi can't win. On making his recent basket, Takenori stares at Sakuragi angrily and informs him that this is his beloved sport of basketball that he just insulted. Upon witnessing, Haruko tells Mito and his colleagues that her brother is a nice person and is a bit stubborn when it comes to basketball; he is a basketball enthusiast, and he has been playing this sport since first grade.

While dribbling, Takenori mocks Hanamichi that he hasn't been able to touch the ball once. To further insult Sakuragi, Akagi tries to give him the basketball. Hanamichi remains unsuccessful in his attempt at stealing the ball. Takenori confidently passes and tries to go for his 9th basket. Hanamichi keeps up with him; Akagi gets impressed with his speed and informs Sakuragi that being faster than him won't win the match. Hanamichi yells that he will win for sure; while stopping Akagi, he accidentally grabs and pulls down Takenori's trousers. Agaki gets furious at Sakuragi and then tries to punch him. The rest of the Shohuko High squad try to calm down their captain. Haruko requests Mito to please stop this match. Yohei informs that in the current situation, they can't stop the game. Akagi declares that he felt insulted by what Hanamichi did to him earlier and will show no mercy. One more point, and Takenori will win the match. Confused and intimated by Takenori's basketball playstyle, Hanamichi sees Haruko in the crowd and gets energized, believing that she came to cheer him on. Sakuragi gets a bit serious and, this time successfully blocks Agaki from scoring and then grabs the loose ball. Everyone in the crowd becomes astounded by Hanamichi's unorthodox attempt, and the match that was once one-sided becomes interesting.
