After adequately analyzing their opponent Ryonan High`s strengths and weaknesses, the following day, a focused Shohuko High basketball team prepares for their upcoming intense practice match. In between their practice session Takenori and Rukawa viciously slam dunks. Hanamichi continues to work on improving his layup shot. Upon witnessing everyone's better than expected performance, Ayako compliments them and urges her squad to practice 3on3 half-court drills. Ayako feels excited about the upcoming practice match, and she is impressed by Takenori's leadership skills. Their Captain's determination has raised the morale of all the members. Takenori urges his squad not to stop moving and raise their hands high in the practice session. The sophomore members, Satoru and Iishi, work on improving their defensive skills. Their team continues to practice after school hours. Two of the Shohuko High soccer team members notice the lights are on at the gym. They get excited and head to the gym. Upon arrival, they admire the school's basketball team for actually working hard. Ayako thanked them and explained that their practice match opponent was Ryonan Hai. This year, her team is expected to compete in national championships from her area.

Ayako further commented that if the team didn't win, she would have the least chance of competing in the national championship. Hanamichi continues to works on improving his layup shots. Upon witnessing his successful layup attempt, Ayako and Kogure compliment their freshman. Ayako high-fives Hanamichi and states it's impressive out of five. He made four successful layup attempts. Hanamichi smiles and replies that he is indeed a genius basketball player and it is a straightforward technique to put the ball in the basket. Hanamichi then recalls the moment when Haruko taught him the layup shot and thanked her. Hanamichi then vows for Haruko's sake to give his best efforts in tomorrow's practice match. Takenori, being excited at the given moment, urges his squad to put their heart and soul into today's practice session. At that moment, three girls from Rukawa's fan club arrive at the gym. Takenori gazes at them and informs he isn't talking to them. Three fan girls shouted and announced that they were from Rukawa's fan club. They came here to support him and encourage him to do his best. Rukawa sees their support and shows no reaction to them because of his gentle or harsh attitude.

As a shooting guard, Kogure is working to improve his shooting skills at medium to long distances. Yasuharu Yasuda, Tetsushi Shiozaki, and Satoru continue to hone their pass and defense skills. Ayako is once again looking forward to the next scrimmage, informing her coach that her team's current conditioning and training sessions will make tomorrow's scrimmage very competitive. After finishing the training session, Takenori tells his group to be in school at 8:30. Takenori tells Hanamichi to stop for a moment as everyone makes a noise in the courtroom. Hanamichi is confused as to why the gorilla captain asked him to stay behind. According to him, he did nothing wrong with today's training session. Takenori shows a rebound drill on Hanamichi and asks beginners if they are willing to practice. He replied that Hanamichi is a tough guy and an excellent basketball player. When he heard Takenori hit Hanamichi angry, he replied that he was a troublemaker. Takenori makes fun of Hanamichi by calling him a genius to mock. This little training will come to him easily. Hanamichi asks the captain if he envy him. Takenori gets angry and slams Hanamichi on his forehead, calling him simpleton. Takenori becomes serious and today he tells Hanamichi to teach "rebound". Takenori explains that recovering the missed ball is an ability. Hanamichi is discouraged and says he doesn't want to learn such common techniques, and getting the missed ball back is boring. After that, Hanamichi compares Takenori's actions with Haruko and criticizes the captain's cold actions. Her brother and sister are clearly different in character.

Takenori replies that a person who controls the rebounds can control the game. Hanamichi becomes interested and replies there is a similar saying in boxing `a person who can master their right hand can conquer the world.' Takenori agrees and gives his opinion one day's worth of training session won't make a huge difference. However, if a genius is involved, it might make a difference in tomorrow's practice game. Hanamichi smiles at his Captain's assessment and feels pleased that he finally recognizes his Talent. Takenori further states that he won't force him, and if you have no faith in your ability, kindly leave. Hanamichi laughs and confidently says, that didn't I already told you that I am a genius basketball player, and this practice session will be a walk in the park for him. Takenori agrees, and the training session begins. Kogure sees both of them training and smiles that his friend Takenori is a huge pretender. At their earlier meeting in the nearby café, he specifically told him that Hanamichi is a complete novice and he won't have the opportunity to compete in the practice match. Both Hanamichi and Takenori practice till late at night. At the training session, Hanamichi received a lot of reprimand from the captain. However, Hanamichi does not give up and properly learns to regain the missed ball called "rebound".
