Summary[]
Haruko falls in affection on watching Rukawa's Slam Dunk
Rukawa does a vicious Slam Dunk, and everyone at the court becomes excited and praises Rukawa for his exceptional basketball skills. The three fangirls at the front entrance of the gym start screaming and crying. One of three supporters states that she will follow Rukawa for the rest of her life. Hanamichi sees them and furiously closes the front door. The three of them shouts at Sakuragi and request him to open the door. Hanamichi then notices similar to those three fangirls, Haruko has also fallen in affection with Rukawa's recent slam dunk. Sakuragi gets frustrated, Ayako tries to calm him down. Hanamichi then tries to bring back a daydreaming Haruko. Takenori sees Sakuragi and pushes him away. Akagi instructs Hanamichi to stay away from his little sister, a desperate and teary Sakuragi requests his captain to please allow him to play in the match.
Ayako requests her captain, Takenori, that there is only a little time left in the practice game and he should let Hanamichi join the match. Kogure and another first-year student also join and agree with Ayako's request. Takenori then asks coach Anzai for permission and informs his instructor that Sakuragi is a complete beginner. Hanamichi, to impress his coach starts performing his efficient and speedy dribbling technique. Upon seeing, Anzai becomes a bit impressed and instructs Takenori to let him join. An energetic and determined Hanamichi enters the court. Sakuragi confronts Rukawa, and both angrily stare at each other. Takenori informs both of them that they are on the same team. Haruko returns from her daydreaming and notices Hanamichi will be playing in the practice match.

An excited Haruko asks Ayako that while she is happy that Hanamichi is getting a chance to play. However, she believes that he will make mistakes since he just started learning the sport. Ayako agrees with Haruko's sentiment and states that yes, he will make some mistakes but at the same time gain some valuable experience. Besides Takenori and Kogure, the rest of the Shohuko High sophomore students feel intimidated by Rukawa's and Hanamichi's presence. While guarding Kogure, Sakuragi sees the high pass and efficiently blocks it. Hanamichi then starts to dribble the ball towards the basketball hoop. An excited Ayako states that her basic training with Hanamichi was worth the effort. Takenori is amazed at seeing Hanamichi's progress. Rukawa requests Sakuragi to pass him. Hanamichi being jealous of Rukawa's previous slam dunk attempt ignores him and tries to go for his slam dunk. Takenori sees Hanamichi and challenges him. Sakuragi jumps, and Takenori yells and states not to underestimate him. Hanamichi, being excited in the given moment, misses dunking in the basketball hoop and accidentally hits the ball at the back of Takenori's head.
Everyone is astonished as to what they just witnessed on the court. Hanamichi apologizes to his fainted captain that he didn't do that on purpose. Takenori gets up furiously and tries to beat up Hanamichi. Rukawa watches both of them interestingly. Kogure states to Ayako that maybe letting Hanamichi play in the practice match was not a good idea. Ayako agrees with her vice-captain's sentiment. Meanwhile, a happy and excited Anzai-sensei is amazed at Hanamichi's basketball skills.
