Shohuko High's team coach Anzai

Shohuko High's team coach Mitsuyoshi Anzai

Hanamichi returns to the team and agrees to work on the basic passing training. Ayako is her instructor and assists him. She then advises Sakuragi to pass the ball softly. Upon seeing, Kogure praises Hanamichi for his work ethic and informs Takenori that Sakuragi is becoming a basketball player day by day. Takenori disagrees and tells Kogure that Hanamichi is still a bit impatient, and then Akagi joins the rest of his teammates for practice. Upon seeing Rukawa's talent and skills, Kogure believes that Rukawa will steal his position as a starter from the team. However, he doesn't feel irritated but somewhat relieved because it will help Shohuko High become even stronger.

Rukawa's supporters cheer him on as he practices and then glance up to them. The three supporting fangirls of his become even more excited. Meanwhile, Shohuko High's team coach Anzai politely asks the three teenagers to give him space to enter the gym. Being excited at the given moment, the three fangirls ignore Anzai. Hanamichi approaches the front door of the gym and furiously closes the entrance. Rukawa's supporters scream and get angry at Sakuragi. Ayako then teases Rukawa that he might be a quiet person, but he is truly popular among girls. Later, Anzai, the teams' coach, makes his appearance on the court. Sakuragi misjudges Anzai and teases him for his chubby appearance. All the team members go in frantic mode; Takenori approaches Hanamichi, smacks him in the forehead, and informs him that Anzai is the teams' coach.

Ayako then informs Hanamichi that Anzai-sensei, due to his old age, makes few appearances on the court, and he should not judge him over his appearance. Further on, she states that Anzai-sensei was one of the best basketball players in Japan at a young age. Anzai then tells his team that he has set up a practice match with Ryonan High school, and upon concluding, Anzai then praises that this year their team, Shohuko High, has many potential freshmen joining their team. Later on, Kogure informs his teammates that Ryonan High is one of the top 4 teams in the Kanagawa region.

Upon hearing, Hanamichi gets all excited, and Takenori tells Sakuragi that he is still in the training phase on learning the sport and will not have a chance to play in the match. Hanamichi then gets a bit low-spirited, and during that time, Haruko arrives at the gym and is excited that Shohuko High will have a practice match against Ryonan High. Haruko then encourages Hanamichi to continue training and believes that he will get the opportunity to play in official games one day. Anzai then instructs his squad to have a friendly practice match between the Shohuko High sophomores and first-year students. Ayako gets excited and tells Hanamichi and Haruko that they are about to witness an exciting practice match between Takenori and Rukawa. Both teams line up and greet each other. Takenori then confidently tells Rukawa to compete against him at his full strength.
